Discover Japanese culture with our Family Fun programs! These activities allow the whole family to enjoy Japanese arts and crafts together, while learning about Japanese culture and customs.

- Feb. 20 Family Fun Day: Honmei Choco – FREE (Virtual)
Make your own box of clay chocolate, or chocolate decora, and learn about the Japanese tradition and customs for giving chocolate on holidays—Valentine’s and White Day. - Mar. 6 Hinamatsuri DIY Kokeshi – FREE (with paid admission)
Make your own customized kokeshi, a Japanese wooden figurine, to celebrate Hinamatsuri, Doll’s Day. - May 9 Mother’s Day Nuigurumi – Kamiya Room (Classroom A) – FREE with paid admission
Nuigurumi is the Japanese word for stuffed toy or plushie. Come make your own no-sew mini animal plushie using Japanese folding techniques on fabric. Perfect to keep for yourself, or give as a gift for Mom! - June 20 Father’s Day Koma – Kamiya Room (Classroom A) – FREE with paid admission
Come bring Dad to customize your own koma, a Japanese wooden spinning top, and learn about Japan’s rich history of this game and how these toys could be rigged to battle each other. - July 1 Tanabata – Lobby – FREE with paid admission
Make a wish for the Star Festival, Tanabata! Write your wish on a strip of colored paper, or tanzaku, and tie it to a branch of our Tanabata bamboo to celebrate. - Aug. 21 Kakigori – Kamiya Room (Classroom A) – FREE with paid admission
In South Florida’s hottest month come make your own play kakigori, a Japanese summer treat of finely shaved ice, which is popular at festivals. - Sept. 11 Orizuru for Peace – Kamiya Room (Classroom A) – FREE with paid admission
Join us to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the World Trade Center tragedy, and make orizuru, Japanese paper cranes. Learn about Japan’s history of making these as a wish for peace.
